Rhys Williams is currently one of Wales`s top performing track athletes (400m hurdles) with many successes under his belt to date.
At a young age Rhys was showing huge his natural sporting ability competing at a high level in not only athletics but rugby and swimming where he was Welsh national U15 backstroke champion and competed up to Welsh national squad level at U18 level.
Rhys`s early success came in 1999 winning the Welsh schools championship then going onto win a gold medal at the European youth Olympics in 2001 this proved to be the spring board to where Rhys went on to achieve European champion status at 3 different age groups U17,U20 and U23 winning double gold in 2005.
Later that year Rhys continued his rich vein of form and made his full international GB debut at the World Athletic championships in Helsinki where he had a terrific performance reaching the semi finals equaling his personal best of 49.02 not only on one occasion but twice.
Rhys quickly established himself on the senior international circuit with instant success following up from his very impressive World championships semi final in 2005. Rhys continued his focus and improvement in going one step further at the European championships and winning a bronze medal in the 400m hurdles. Not happy with one medal Rhys refocused on this occasion teaming up with his GB team mates Robert Tobin, Graham Hedman and Tim Benjamin in the 4x400 relay where they went on to win the silver medal.
