Samantha Palmer`s tumbling career started at a the young age of twelve years old. Sam`s obvious talent and ability was seized upon by the national coaching team and gained selection into the national squad.
Early signs of a star in the making came at her first world competition where she achieved 7th place a great success on such a stage. The experienced gained from competing at her first major competition proved vital in enabling here to have an exact direction in preparation for the next major.
Two years on at the world age championships, Sam`s two years of experience proved vital to her development in becoming a world class gymnast bringing home the gold medal. Continuing her good form, it was proving to be an excellent year for Sam as she added the European junior title to add to her world age title.
Sam not being one to dwell on her successes she travelled to the world age championships as defending champion. Rising to the pressure and expectation Sam made history in becoming the first woman to successfully defend her world age championship title.
The time came like it does for every junior athletes to make the transition into competing on the big stage at senior level. Sam`s transition sadly was not a smooth one unfortunately snaping her anterior cruciate ligament subsequently had to undergo a knee reconstruction. Determined not to be set back she worked hard on the rehabilitation of her knee. Two months after undergoing major knee surgery Sam`s grit and determination saw her stepping back onto the tumble track where she gained selection for the GB senior world championship team. Sam displayed an amazing amount of courage at the event coming away with a bronze medal a remarkable achievement so soon after undergoing major knee surgery.
2006 turned out to be an amazing year for Sam, after training for 8 months since the op she started the world cup series. Winning two out of three in the year Sam was ready for the European championships where she took the title and became senior European champion. Through a successful year she qualified for the World Cup Final which was held in front of the home crowd in Birmingham where she did the inevitable and took the title. Where she was crowned world cup champion.
