Tim Benjamin (Athletics)

Tim Benjamin Welsh 400m runner is currently the British number one. Tim`s success began at a young age where he trained locally alongside Wales`s sprint specialist Christian Malcolm. Tim then moved with his family to Slough where he continued his development into becoming a world class athlete training with the likes of Marlon Devonish a world class athlete in his own right.
Tim experienced like many top athletes a successful junior career picking up many junior titles including the World Youth Championships in 1999 where he ran over the shorter distance of 200 meters. The following year Tim had taken the decision to switch distances and turn his concentration to the 400meters. Tim`s decision was quickly rewarded with a place on the 4x400 2001 World Championships relay team to be held in Edmonton.
By 2002 Tim had established himself as one of Britain's best athletes, winning the British AAA title, and running in the successful GB squad at the European Cup In the Commonwealth Games that year, he helped guide Wales to a silver medal in the controversial 4x 400 meters relay. It was during that year also that he earned the silver in the European Under-23 Athletics Championships in Poland.
Tim has gone from strength to strength and like many of the world top athletes has manged to show true fight and determination coming back from illnesses and injuries. At the Athens Olympics 2004 Tim reached the semi finals whilst coming 5th in the 400m at the 2005 World Championships.
Tim`s success on the world stage has proven to be vital learning curve evidence of this came at the 2006 European Championships where he gained a silver medal in the 4x400m relay.
