Katharine Merry (Athletics)

Katharine Merry's success at the junior level was outstanding. She achieved an unprecedented 9 AAA’s age group titles over 100m and 200m, as well as winning the English school’s pentathlon, making her GB under 20 debut at the astonishingly young age of 13 years old. In only three appearances at the European Junior championship Katharine has won 5 medals, including gold over 200m and 4 x 100m in 1993.  In 1996, she attended the Atlanta Olympics in the 200m as well as competing in the 1997 World Championships in the same event.

Katharine soon turned her focus to the 400m where she found immediate success.  In Sydney, at the 2000 Olympics, she won the bronze medal.  The following year, Katharine was clocked as the fastest woman in the world for 400m.
